Explore a prompt's results
Explore the results for a single prompt in Klarvu: compare AI platforms, read individual answers, and understand mentions, positions, and citations.
Updated
When you want to understand why AI mentions your business – or recommends a competitor instead – it's worth reading the individual answers.
Each prompt has its own page where you can compare results across AI platforms and see what AI has actually said over time.
How to open a prompt
Click any prompt on the "Prompts" page to open its details.
You can also open a question directly from "Prompt to win" on "Home" or "Gaps by prompt" on "Competitors".
At the top, the navigation shows "Prompts › Prompt details", making it easy to return to your prompt overview.
"Prompt details" – your prompt overview
At the top, you'll see the question itself, for example, "What's the best accounting software for freelancers?"
You'll also find a few options for managing the prompt:
- "Fan-out queries": Shows the searches AI makes when generating its answer. These are covered separately on the Query Fanout page.
- "Remove prompt": Archives the prompt so it stops running while preserving historical answers.
- "Delete permanently": Permanently deletes the prompt and its associated data. This option is only available to owners and administrators.
For more about archiving and deletion, see the Add, edit, and organize prompts page.
Key metrics and distributions
Below the question, you'll find two key metrics:
| Metric | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Responses" | The number of AI answers Klarvu has collected for the prompt. |
| "Platforms" | Which AI platforms are included in the results. |
There are also two cards:
- "Presence": The distribution between answers that mention your brand ("Mentioned") and those that don't ("Not mentioned").
- "Citations": The distribution of citations between your own website ("Your brand") and other websites ("Elsewhere"). The "Your brand" percentage shows what share of citations points to your site.
These cards help you distinguish between AI mentioning your company and AI citing your website. The two don't necessarily happen together.
Compare AI platforms
Further down, you'll find a table with one row for each AI platform.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| "Provider" | The AI platform answering the question. |
| "Responses" | The number of collected answers from that platform. |
| "Presence (7d)" | Whether your brand was mentioned in answers over the last 7 days. |
| "Citations (7d)" | Whether answers cited your website over the last 7 days. |
The small dots in the last two columns show results day by day.
Hover over a dot to see the date and whether your brand was mentioned or cited. A dot may also indicate "no run", meaning the prompt wasn't run that day.
This makes it easy to spot whether your brand is mentioned consistently on one platform but less frequently on another.
Click a platform to open its individual answers.
Read individual AI answers
Opening a platform takes you to the responses it has generated for the selected prompt.
You'll see one answer at a time. Use "Previous response" and "Next response" to navigate between answers and follow how they change over time.
At the top, you'll find details about the selected answer:
- "Platform": Which AI platform generated the answer.
- "Country": The country where the question was submitted.
- "Language": The language used for the question.
- "Persona": The customer type associated with the prompt.
- "Created": When the answer was created.
- "Updated": When it was last updated.
Understanding the four metrics
Each answer has four metrics showing how your brand appears in that specific response.
| Metric | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Presence" | Whether your brand appears in the answer ("Yes" or "No"). |
| "Position" | Your brand's position if AI provides a list or ranking of recommendations. If there's no clear position, none is shown. |
| "Sentiment" | How your brand is described: "Positive", "Neutral", "Mixed", "Negative", or "Unclear". If your brand doesn't appear, you'll see "Not mentioned". |
| "Citation" | Whether the answer cites your own website ("Yes" or "No"). |
"Position" refers to your brand's placement in this specific AI answer. It's different from "Avg. position" on "Competitors", which measures relative position among your tracked companies.
You can read more about that distinction on the Mention rate and position page.
"Full Response" – see what AI actually said
Under "Full Response", you can read the complete answer exactly as the AI platform generated it.
This is often where the most useful information is.
Perhaps your company appears, but only as an alternative. Maybe AI recommends a competitor because of a particular feature or customer need.
You might also notice that AI describes your product differently from how you present it on your own website.
The metrics tell you what Klarvu detected. The full answer helps you understand the context.
"Citations (N)" – which sources did AI use?
This section lists the pages AI referenced in its answer.
The number in parentheses indicates how many citations were recorded.
If you see "No citations in this response.", the AI platform didn't provide any source citations in that answer.
It's worth checking whether AI cites your own website, competitors' websites, or independent sources such as review platforms and industry publications.
"Competitive Presence (N)" – which competitors appeared?
This section shows which of your tracked competitors were mentioned in the answer.
It's particularly useful when your brand is missing but one or more competitors are recommended.
If you haven't added any competitors yet, the section won't have any tracked competitors to display.
"New Response" – collect a fresh answer
You don't always have to wait for the next scheduled tracking run.
With "New Response", you can send the same prompt to the selected AI platform again and collect a fresh answer.
While the request is running, you'll see that the answer is being collected. The new response becomes available once collection and analysis are complete.
There are a few situations where the button won't be available:
- The platform isn't included: You'll see a message such as "This platform is included in paid plans".
- The platform is disabled for your brand: You'll see "This platform is turned off for this brand by Klarvu".
- Your trial has ended: New tracking runs are paused.
- You don't have editing permissions: You can view answers but can't start a new run.
If there are no answers for a platform, it may also mean that the platform hasn't been selected for the prompt. You can check this under "Platforms" in "Edit prompt".
How to use individual answers
Your overall metrics help you notice changes. Individual answers help you investigate what's behind them.
Find a question where your brand is missing
Start with "Prompt to win" on "Home" or "Gaps by prompt" on "Competitors".
Choose a question where competitors frequently appear without your brand.
Open the platform and read the answer
Look at how AI describes the competitors.
Are they highlighted for pricing, features, customer reviews, or something else? Does your brand appear as an alternative, or is it missing entirely?
Examine the citations
Open "Citations" and see which websites AI references.
Are they competitors' own websites, comparison articles, or other sources? This gives you a starting point for investigating the information AI uses.
Compare answers over time
Use "Previous response" and "Next response" to read answers from different days.
Do the same companies keep appearing, or do recommendations change? Is your brand consistently missing, or does it appear sometimes?
