Set up Klarvu

Set up Klarvu step by step: choose your brand, market, and questions before you start tracking your visibility in AI answers.

Updated

Getting started takes just a few minutes. Klarvu reads your website and suggests most of the setup, so your main job is to review the suggestions and make sure they fit your business.

You can use "Back" to return to earlier steps while you're between steps 2 and 8.

Step-by-step setup

Enter your website

Start by entering your company's website address.

Klarvu reads the content and uses it to suggest a brand profile, relevant topics, and questions potential customers might ask AI. You'll have a chance to review and adjust these suggestions in the following steps.

Choose your brand name

What do your customers actually call your business?

Use the name people recognize rather than necessarily using your company's legal name. This is the name Klarvu looks for when checking whether AI mentions your brand in its answers.

Select your country, language, and time zone

Choose the market you want to track. The country determines where the AI engines respond from, not where your company is based. The language determines which language your questions are asked in.

Your time zone controls the automated tracking schedule, which runs every night at 00:01 once you've verified your email.

Review your brand profile

Klarvu has already filled in your profile using information from your website. Now it's worth checking that everything accurately describes your business.

Review your category, description, "Brand identity" (up to 8 attributes), "Products and services" (up to 10), and "Personas" (up to 8 customer types or decision-makers, such as a CFO).

Klarvu uses this information to create questions that are relevant to your business and the people you want to reach.

Choose where you sell

Tell Klarvu where your customers are located. You can choose between "Global", "Country", "Region", and "City".

A region might be Scandinavia or Jutland, for example. This helps Klarvu generate questions that reflect the geographic markets that matter to your business.

Select your topics

Klarvu suggests topics based on your brand profile. These might cover particular products, services, or areas your customers are likely to ask about.

Review the suggestions, remove anything irrelevant, and add your own where needed. You can select up to 8 topics, and your prompts will be distributed across them.

Choose your prompt focus

What kind of customer questions are you most interested in tracking? You have three options:

  • "Research": Customers exploring a problem and possible solutions. Example: "How do I handle VAT as a new business?"
  • "Compare options" (default): Customers comparing alternatives and looking for recommendations. Example: "What's the best accounting software for freelancers?"
  • "Take action": Customers ready to buy, book, or sign up. Example: "Where can I start a free trial of accounting software?"

Klarvu generates 25 prompts with a mix of questions, weighted toward your chosen focus. Each prompt also has a search intent: "Informational", "Commercial", or "Transactional".

Review and customize your prompts

Under "Review prompts", you can see all your questions before tracking begins.

You can filter by topic, edit the wording, replace a question with a new suggestion, delete questions, or add your own. You can also generate 5 more suggestions at a time, up to a total of 50 prompts.

Once you're happy with your selection, click "Start tracking" and create your account.

See your first AI answers

Klarvu immediately starts sending your questions to ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews.

You can watch the results come in from each platform. Perplexity and Claude appear as locked options marked "Paid plans".

When your first answers are ready, click "See full results" to open your dashboard. Remember to verify your email to enable automatic tracking every night.

A few tips before you start

  • Use the name your customers recognize. If people know your business by a different name than the one on your website, use the name they're most likely to search for.
  • Choose your market based on your customers. What matters is how AI responds in the countries where your customers are, not necessarily where your office is located.
  • Be selective with topics. Remove areas you don't want to measure. One specific topic is often more useful than two overly broad ones.
  • Include real customer questions. The questions you regularly hear from customers are often the most useful to track. Add them even if Klarvu has already generated suggestions.

Can I change things later?

Yes. You can add and remove prompts and change their settings even after tracking has started. The wording of a prompt can't be changed afterwards, though – to ask a question differently, add it as a new prompt.

Just stay within the 50-prompt limit during your trial. You don't need to get everything perfect on your first attempt.
